Word ΜΟΔΡΟϝΑΝΑΚ
m o d r o w a n a k
Transliteration modrowanak
Meaning king of Modra, smith
Notes/Remarks The etymology of this word is uncertain
See also Phrygian: ϝΑΝΑΚΤ ‘overlord, king of kings’
Greek: μυδρός ‘blacksmith’

Comments
Compound of the Phrygian or Bithynian city-name Μόδρα (see Strabo 12.3) and the title ϝΑΝΑΚ 'king'. Sayce (The Journal of Hellenic Studies, Vol. 46, Part 1 (1926), pp. 29-35) had suggested a connection with Greek μύδρος, which seems unlikely.
